Cardia: Remote cardiac monitoring after discharge
Acquired by Halvard Medical, 2021
Cardia sends heart patients home from hospital with a small adhesive patch that records a continuous ECG for 30 days. Its software reviews the data around the clock and alerts the discharging cardiology team when it sees an arrhythmia or other warning sign, often before the patient notices symptoms. In a Danish study of 2,400 patients, readmissions within 30 days fell by 27 per cent.
Freja is a cardiologist who saw the gap between discharge and the first follow-up appointment every week on the ward. Amira led our Series A in 2017, and we helped the company through CE marking and its first hospital contracts outside Scandinavia.
Halvard Medical acquired Cardia in 2021. By then the patch was in use at 140 hospitals across nine European countries, and it now forms part of Halvard’s cardiology portfolio.
