Lumio: Lab-grade diagnostics at home

Lumio makes a home testing kit that produces results to the standard of a clinical laboratory. Patients draw a few drops of blood with a painless device on the upper arm, post the sample back in a stabilising cartridge and receive results for up to 40 markers within three days, each reviewed by a doctor. Insurers in Germany and Austria now reimburse several of its panels.

Lea had led diagnostics partnerships at a large German hospital group, and Yusuf spent eight years developing sample stabilisation chemistry at a university lab in Heidelberg. Amira led the seed round in 2022 and has worked closely with the team on reimbursement and regulatory approval since.

Lumio processed more than 300,000 tests last year and has opened its own laboratory in Leipzig to keep up with demand.
