Amperra: Software for virtual power plants

Active

Amperra coordinates thousands of home batteries, electric vehicle chargers and smart thermostats so that a utility can dispatch them like a single power plant. Utilities and energy retailers use it to enrol customers, forecast how much flexibility is available hour by hour and bid that capacity into wholesale markets, paying households for the energy they shift.

Carlos spent a decade in grid operations at a Texas utility, and Beth built device control systems for a residential solar installer. They had a working pilot with a municipal utility within six months of starting the company. We led the seed round in 2025, with Hana joining the board.

Amperra now coordinates around 85,000 devices across Texas and California, giving its customers more than 300 megawatts of flexible capacity. The team is preparing its first deployments outside the United States.
